Edifício modular, caracteriza-se por ser uma rudimentar caixa de madeira pré-fabricada que se abre pontualmente para o exterior. Caixa que “pousa” na morfologia existente sem interferir e cujo revestimento define todo o seu entorno numa área onde o quinto alçado [cobertura] tem uma presença fundamental pela excessiva densidade urbana de predominante construção vertical que a envolve. Um apontamento de ruralidade numa área de manifestos excessos urbanos.

Modular building, characterizes itself for being a rudimentary wooden prefabricated box that opens itself outwards in specific viewpoints. Box, which "lands" on existing plot morphology without interfering. All surrounded by the same material it lays in a area where the fifth elevation [rooftop] is fundamental due to the excessive urban density and the predominantly vertical construction that surrounds it. A note of rurality in an urban area with obvious excesses.

instituto bacteriolÓgico cÂmara pestana | 2000

Trata-se da  ampliação da Faculdade de Ciências Médicas de Lisboa para uma área adjacente anteriormente ocupada pelo “Instituto Bacteriológico Câmara Pestana”. Incluem-se edifícios de funcionalidades tão distintas quanto uma Biblioteca e Centro de Documentação de Saúde, três laboratórios de ensino e investigação  [Microbiologia, Imunologia e Genética] e ainda um estacionamento subterrâneo. Pretendeu-se com a intervenção [re]estabelecer uma relação entre as diferentes malhas e usos urbanos através de um conjunto de plataformas comunicantes que simultaneamente interligam e espera-se, valorizam intervenções de diferentes épocas ainda marcadas neste núcleo.

This project regards to the expansion of the Lisbon Medical School to an adjacent area formerly occupied by "Instituto Bacteriológico Câmara Pestana". It includes buildings with a large diversity of functions such as a Library and Documentary Centre of Health, three teaching and research laboratories [microbiology, immunology and genetics] plus an underground parking. It was intended by the intervention to [re]establish a relationship between the different urban meshes through a set of interconnected platforms that simultaneously link and, hopefully, enhances the different interventions that were made through different eras and are still present in this nucleus.
